I attended the open meeting held last Friday 18th Sept 09 at the Fen School, East Heckington. We were advised to write letters of objection initially to the erection of a 70 metre wind monitoring mast. Can anyone tell me what is to be fitted at the top of the mast? Is it to be a simple anemometer, or is it to be a mini wind turbine? In either case, presumably, with some sort of wireless transmitting device. I'd like to know so that I can be accurate in my letter of objection.

Can confirm that it is simply an anemometer. The problem with met masts is that they are temporary structures and councillors are minded by their planning committee to pass them. We had an application for two recently near us and one was no problem being determined the second one was more difficult, because it was going to be situated by grade two listed properties. The councillors are also minded to not link the masts to any future application for a wind turbine. So no mention has to be made in your letter regarding the future purpose of the anemometer. All politically on the side of the energy companies of course.

If you go to wychavon planning worcestershire, search for planning application W/08/03234/PN or ending 25, you will see all the details regarding ours. Also go to archived details on www.vvasp.org.uk web site for how we advised people to write their letters.

Hope this helps
