The creation of wind is the result of the shining sun. As long as the sun shines, the wind will also blow. Wind possesses a great deal of strength within itself. It is believed that the wind energy present in the atmosphere is much greater than what is required by the world. A study reveals that the potential of wind power on land and near-shore to be 72 terrawatts (TW), or over five times the world's current energy use in all forms (15 TW from all sources in 2005).

How this wind is formed? Wind is formed by the uneven heating of the earth by the sun’s rays. As the air just above the earth’s surface gets heated up, it moves to give its place to the heavier and cooler air above it. This causes the wind to flow.

Tapping the wind energy would require the installation of wind turbines, which have blades that are rotated by the blowing wind. The blades are connected to a drive shaft that turns an electric generator to produce electricity. Many new technologies have come up in recent times that have contributed increasingly towards the decrease in cost of producing electricity.
