FenMan, on 08 September 2009 - 03:24 PM, said:Plans to switch off the air-conditioning and instead open windows at the Department for Energy and Climate Change have been scrapped after staff complained about the noise - read that with amusement, but here's a thought....
If the Government wanted to encourage energy saving on a national level, then why not supply or at least subsidise electricity monitors to all households? I have one of these units in my home, and believe me nothing focuses the mind more when you see real time electricity consumption displayed in terms of cost per hour, it's truly enlightening
Of course this only works for people who are serious about saving energy, carbon emissions and money, but considering the enormous public subsidies available for the construction of windfarms, I wonder why a scheme such as this was not introduced years ago?

I've made the same suggestion myself in a number of meetings with 'relevant companies' but no-one seems to want to take it on. As a govenment initiative it seems a win win situation. There must be a hidden interest somewhere in the system.

As you'll see from the forum we ahve a number of sections for various proposed wind farm sites. If you would like a section for your area please let me know via email info@wind-farms.org.uk including your telephone number and I'll give you a call to discuss.

Thanks for this contribution Jane.
Given that you were refered to by name earlier in the discussion it is fortunate that you came across us and more than appropriate that you comment.

Woah there Will, steady on! The isuue is whether or not 2km is reasonable, not whether it is a part of a fundamentalist inspired master plan from highly organised strategy led protest groups. I've popped along to 2 meetings as a guest and, trust me, this is far from the case.
Just to reitterate, it seems to me that 500m is too close and nowhere to be seen is unreasonable. Where should the line be drawn?
