Suggestion for possible sites
Posted 11 Dec 2009
I just wonder, why can't we place several turbines on the sites of the existing power production sites?
The vast majority of production is done in open spaces, so no obstructions for the turbines. I don't know of any power stations in areas of outstanding beauty or scientific interest. Nor do I think that a few turbines will cause a blot on the landscape if placed on & around power stations.
If town dwellers like to see these green wind farms, how about building a turbine or five around the bigger football grounds, parks an other spaces? After all, the vast majority of power is used in the urban areas, so why should power be produced in the rural community, ruin our landscape, dstroy agricultural land and then have to be transported (yes, even electricity is transported via cables) hundreds of miles?
I think a lot of this rural electricity production is to do with government's fear of terrorism, after all it's harder to affect the nation if only a tiny percentage of the power is knocked out by a terrorist, and who cares about 2000 acres of cabbages & 5 houses compared to 2000 houses & 80 000 people?
